The body softens to will not be allowed or will not be able to wear. That gap matters. The story is plausible but not legally documented. Team GB has an Adidas deal of over 40 years. Exclusivity is the asset Adidas pays for. Any exception would erode that premium. Nike, meanwhile, gains a halo effect regardless of 2028 because the viral moment already happened at Athlos, outside NOC jurisdiction. Hodgkinson sits at the peak of her commercial value. Her team appears to be building a long-term personal brand, not simply choosing a race suit. The Cathy Freeman comparison is imperfect. Freeman wore an iconic Australia/Nike kit in a different sponsorship structure. The analogy normalises the suit but does not settle the contractual conflict. Public opinion favours the athlete and Nike. Team GB and Adidas risk looking restrictive, which is why Team GB's statement is emollient and does not name Adidas. Three scenarios exist for LA 2028: full Adidas-only, approval for non-British athletes, or a negotiated design compromise. The middle scenario is most likely.
