Sophia's Birthday, Part One {Birthday Photos}

Sophia's Birthday, Part 1: {Birthday Photos}

Ever since Sophia was nine months old, I was on the "lookout" for a photographer to take her first birthday photos.  I wanted an affordable photographer specializing in child photography.  I stumbled across Katie Lewin Photography on Facebook (a friend had his daughter's newborn photos taken by KLP and I "liked" the photo) and fell in love with her work!  Katie specializes in maternity, newborn, and family photography.

After picking-up my jaw from viewing Katie's breathtaking photos on her FB site, I emailed her immediately asking questions.  After several email exchanges, I scheduled two "mini-sessions" on Sophia's actual birthday.  Katie was great with answering all of my questions- I want to thank her for being so patient with me :)

Our two sessions consisted of a twenty minute family session and a twenty minute cake smash session.  Here are a few photos from our family session:

 Here are the cake smash photos:
I made the "S" and the "O-N-E". I also brought the pink pom-poms and diamond garland.

These photos were taken at Katie's home in Newburgh, NY and I am so happy with them.   I will be sure to use Katie Lewin Photography in the future, especially for newborn photos.

Feel free to visit Katie Lewin Photography's Facebook Page and please be sure to tell Katie, Sophia and I recommended you to her  :)

What.We.Wore.Wednesday {Mama + Baby in Prints}

{Mixing Prints}

Since mixing prints is trending this season, I decided to give it a whirl.  Mind you, I always thought this was a huge, no-no

Mixing prints= hot mess!

But, after seeing fellow fashion bloggers do this, I noticed that it can be done tastefully.

I felt a bit out of my comfort zone today; but, I received quite a few compliments on my outfit.  So, I think I pulled it off even though I have a few "tweaks" in mind for next time

Miss Sophia is also "trending" in her polka dot pants!  How adorable are they?! Her shirt is one of my favorites and I love how I can cuff her sleeves on her jacket!  My lil fashionista <3

Keep the following in mind when mixing prints:
  • Make sure you have one common color.  In my case, it would be "blue."
  • Combine loose prints with structured prints. Loose print- top, structured print-pants.
  • Blend small designs with larger-scale ones. Small design- top, larger- pants (I would consider my pants "medium size print")
  • No more than two prints. You don't want to "over do it" because then you're making your way to "hot mess" status ;)

Earrings: Everyday Icing Accessory Auction
Watch: MK
Bracelets: Kohl's and Everyday Icing Accessory Auction

How did you think I did?
Have any of you tried mixing prints?

Special thanks to my daddy for taking our pictures and providing fun with some bubbles <3

Mother's Day Brunch "Mission" {Peplum}

Mother's Day Brunch

Mother's Day is May 12th (only three weeks away) and our families are attending a Mother's Day Brunch at
The Links at Unionvale.  I <3 brunch. It's my favorite type of meal and The Links puts on a fabulous buffet! I can't wait!

So, I'm on a "mission" to find an outfit and I really want to wear a peplum top or dress.  I've tried a few peplum tops on recently and I noticed that a more "structured" and "longer" top is more flattering for my body type.

After I find my outfit, I can then focus on Sophia's :)

Above are some inspirations. What number do you like best?!

What are your Mother's Day plans?

Mwahhh!!! Pretty and Bold Kisses!

Besides giving Sophia kisses, my lips have been pretty.....
(insert silly comment here)

"Pretty" thanks to some fun lipsticks!

Within the last few months, I've started a collection of fun lipstick colors.  Most of them are purchased after checking out the sales flyer at the local CVS or Rite Aid.  Whoop Whoop!

I wasn't much of a lipstick/gloss wearin' gal but I couldn't help but notice the bold and beautiful colors that are trending this spring/summer season (thank you Pinterest, Ivory Lane, Pink Peonies.)

I decided to give it a shot and purchase my first bold lip color, L'Oreal's Colour Riche, "Velvety Fuchsia."  I put it on as soon as I got into my car, and fell in love! (Yes, I was "that girl" you see at a stop light, looking at herself in the mirror, smacking her lips..Mwahhh!)

Below are pictures of four lip colors I've been wearing recently.

Maybelline Color Sensational 20 Pink & Proper
This color wears the longest out of the four.
It has a beautiful shine and it's not too bold.
 It's a very wearable color.

Cover Girl Lip Perfection Jumbo Gloss Balm Coral Twist
 Love this color! It's a bold but soft (if that make sense) coral color with some shine.
It's not heavy or sticky- glides on smoothly. I give it an "A+".

L'Oreal Colour Riche 173 Velvety Fuchsia
BOLD. LOVE <3
Need to apply it several times to make it "Pop"
Goes on smoothly, like a balm
It does fade rather quickly but fades pretty, doesn't crack or make your lips look dry
Sephora Collection Rouge Shine
Most "pretty" and natural looking color.
It has a more matted feel than any of the other colors
This is Sephora's top selling lipcolor, I can see why!

Price range $7.50 - $12.00

Maybelline Color Sensational in 20 Pink & Proper
Cover Girl Lip Perfection Jumbo Gloss Balm Coral Twist
L'Oreal Colour Riche 173 Velvety Fuchsia
Sephora Collection Rouge Shine

Just a few tips when wearing lipstick:
*When wearing a bold lip color- make sure your eye makeup is light/neutral.  You don't want to take away from your lips or look like a hot mess ;)
*Don't think you need to "match" your lip color with your shirt. Mix it up!
*If your lips are chapped- drink more water.  Chapped lips means you're dehydrated (learned that from my OB.)

Bold or neutrals, what do you prefer?

Smooches to you all <3

What.We.Wore.Wednesday {Preppy Mama+ Bright Baby}

First off, I want to thank everyone who wished Sophia a happy birthday.  She had a great first birthday and her party was picture perfect.  Once I receive all the pictures taken that day, I will post them along with my DIY projects! :)

What.We.Wore.Wednesday {Preppy mama+bright baby}

Since it was such a beautiful day, I wanted to take our pictures outside.  So please don't mind the random cones in the backyard. Andrew is working on "a project".. lol

I love how denim shirts are trendy this spring/summer.  I figured if I paired it with a light colored skirt and accent it with some leopard -it'd make a fun spring ensemble!  For accessories, I love my statement necklace with its matching earrings.  It's definately a J.Crew look for 1/4 of the price!

As for Sophia, you may have noticed that I love to dress her in bright colors, especially coral.  She's sporting a new pair of Baby Gap skinny jeans she received as a birthday gift.

You Make My Heart Smile :)

I just wanted to take a moment to let my readers know that I was overcome with such emotion (in a good way) after posting the April Fools' entry.  I had many people: mamas, wives, husbands, teachers, and women experienced/ing infertility complications, reach out to thank me for writing something that meant so much to them.

You are welcome! <3 xoxo

I also want to thank those people who offered their kind words, support, and stories.  Thank you so much for going out of your way to show you care. This really made my heart smile :)

On another note...

I've had a few mamas reach out to me with questions to ask readers via this blog and the Born to Wear Diamonds Facebook Page.  I LOVE when this happens!  This is one of the reasons why I started this venture-to ask questions and seek advice from other mamas!

With that said, I am going to start a weekly or monthly post (depending on how many questions I receive) which will feature any questions readers may have about babies, being a mommy, health, beauty, fashion, DIY projects, recipes, anything- sky's the limit!

Please feel free to contact me by:
 Instagram @heathernikola
or leave a comment here with your questions, comments,
or concerns <- don't mean to sound so formal...lol!

I hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend!

What.We.Wore.Wednesday {Easter Edition}

I hope everyone had a blessed Easter.  We had a great day; started off with our own Easter Egg hunt in our living room.  Sophia had no problem finding her eggs.

We had dinner at The Grandview and it was delicious.  We've been going there for the past three years for Easter and it's never a disappointment.  We will actually be there in another week to celebrate someone's BIG DAY!!  ;)

As always, I waited until Saturday to shop for my Easter Sunday outfit.  I ended up buying my dress, and one to wear for Sophia's birthday party, at J.C. Penny.  JCP has recently rebranded and I have to admit, their clothes are more stylish and very reasonably priced.  I bought my two dresses (20% off) for $74.00.

Quick story- I always gravitate toward yellow dresses.  I wanted to try one on but when I showed it to Andrew, he looked at me and said, "You want to look like a Peep?"

 I laughed so hard.. thinking about it still gets me to giggle.
